BIOETHICS IN CONFRONTATION: REFLECTION, RESISTANCE AND RESILIENCE
The deadline for submission of FAB abstracts is Wednesday, 1 October 2025.
As is usual with the FAB conference, our theme is related to the theme of the WCB, but takes a specifically feminist viewpoint. Bioethics in confrontation: reflection, resistance, and resilience asks the question: In the face of global political realignments that are giving support to ongoing injustice and exclusion, does feminist bioethics still play a role in giving voice to the marginalized and disturbing the status quo?
We particularly welcome submissions that re-examine the “taken for granted” in feminist bioethics. Submissions could include creative and analytic work on challenging norms in medicine or science; generating new imaginaries of care or knowledge-making; or examining the role of feminist bioethics in unsettling or maintaining power structures in healthcare and research; and critical reflections on other ways in which feminist bioethics is responsive to or complicit with the things that harm.
We are also looking for submissions that suggest new strategies of resistance and resilience in response to oppressions both old and new, maintain community with scholars around the world who are facing new and emerging “iron curtains”, and help to build solidarities that make collective resistance possible.
Depending on the number of submissions, we aim to host a number of thematic sessions or streams. When submitting your abstract, please indicate the stream you think it best fits.
