IAFR Post-Congress Workshops

About

The purpose of this course is to inform attendees on the medicolegal aspects of paediatric non-accidental injuries (NAI), also known as suspected physical abuse (SPA), the importance of the radiographic projections required, and positioning tips.

This is a two-part course consisting of an online theory component and a practical workshop. The online theory component can be taken as a stand-alone course.

Online Course

The online component is presented by radiographers and radiologists from the UK, Australia & New Zealand and South Africa and covers the following:

  • Common signs and symptoms of physical abuse in paediatrics
  • Radiological guidelines for the imaging of suspected non-accidental injury (NAI)
  • Skeletal Surveys of children
  • Post-mortem examinations for NAI
  • Common findings
  • Medico-Legal Aspects and Protocols

The course will be completed at your own pace and should take approximately 3 hours to complete. A certificate is issued upon successful completion.

Practical Workshop

The practical workshop allows attendees the opportunity to ask questions about the online content, current imaging guidelines and practice positioning with a lifelike model.

The workshops will be held at Century City Conference Centre, on Sunday 7 September 2025. Workshops are approximately 1.5 hours long.  


Workshop 2: 

“Back to Basics in forensic imaging”


About
The purpose of this course is to educate attendees on the basic of forensic imaging in adults and paediatrics, starting with how forensic imaging differs from clinical imaging, purposes of forensic imaging, adaptive techniques, legal aspects, record keeping, standards, and documentation of forensic imaging.

This is a two-part course consisting of an online theory component and a practical workshop. The online theory component can be taken as a stand-alone course. 

Online Course

  • How is forensic imaging different to clinical imaging
  • Types of forensic imaging
  • What guidelines have been published on forensic imaging
  • Adaptive techniques for post-mortem forensic imaging, tips and tricks
  • Requirements of acquisition
  • Storage of forensic imaging
  • Medico-Legal Aspects, SOP and Protocols
  • Reporting forensic imaging
  • Giving evidence in court on forensic imaging
  • Mental health with forensic imaging
